Mission Statement

The Early Career Committee of the BCVS Council has been established with the aim to:

  • Introduce trainees and early career individuals in the mission of the BCVS council and the AHA.
  • Foster the development of trainees and early career professionals in the field of basic cardiovascular science.
  • Facilitate information flow that pertains to scientific advancements and career opportunities

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Science

This will be an interactive session with where we will have a panel discussion of scenarios on how to navigate the laboratory landscape, from Rigor and Reproducibility, to Conflict Resolution and Hiring Practices, and everything in between.

Speed Mentoring

Saturday, November 10, noon–2 p.m. on the Science and Technology Hall floor (Exact location is TBD).

No matter where you are in your career, chances are you could use a little advice now & again. This two-hour Speed Mentoring event is designed help you connect in a meaningful, fun & fast-paced way with an experienced colleague.

Lunch with Legends

Sunday, November 11, noon–1 p.m.

An afternoon with your idol. Sponsored by the AHA’s Scientific Journals, Lunch with Legends is a networking luncheon that gives students and early career the opportunity to meet with some of the biggest names at Scientific Sessions and in your field.”

Early Career/FIT Networking Reception

Sunday, November 11, 5–6:30 p.m. in the Early Career/FIT Lounge

Meet with peers, successful investigators and clinicians, share stories, and learn best practices for addressing professional challenges. This member only event is especially designed for students, early career and FITs. Light refreshments will be served.

Coffee with Distinguished Scientists

Monday, November 12, 9:30–10:15 a.m. in the FAHA Lounge

AHA’s Distinguished Scientists are members who have made major and independent contributions to cardiovascular and stroke research; and is the highest honor bestowed upon a science volunteer by the AHA. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet with some of the brightest minds in the field.
