Maintenance of Certification

Session Schedule | ABIM Learning Sessions | ABP Learning Sessions

The American Heart Association is pleased to offer the following Maintenance of Certification learning sessions to attendees of Scientific Sessions.  These learning sessions offer board-certified physicians of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Pediatrics(ABP) the opportunity to earn points that count towards maintaining licensure.   These sessions are designed to offer lifelong learning and self-assessment opportunities to continuously improve knowledge.

Attendees must register before Oct. 10, 2012.  More information to come in June after registration opens.

ABIM Learning Sessions (More Information)
The primary purpose of the Learning Sessions is to facilitate completion of ABIM medical knowledge modules by board-certified internists and subspecialists of internal medicine for them to receive Maintenance of Certification credit. Learning Sessions are conducted in an interactive group setting with educational support, and are led by ABIM-certified physicians. Participants should be aware of the following guidelines:
  • No on-site registration is allowed.  Room monitors will only allow those who have pre-registered to enter, so please arrive early.
  • You may bring your laptop to log in to the ABIM medical knowledge module for this session. Wi-fi will be provided.
  • If you do not bring a laptop, you will need to transfer your answers to your individual module ordered from ABIM and submit them for MOC credit as soon as possible after the session.  
  • Successful completion of this self-assessment is eligible for 2.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits via the American Heart Association. Attendees may not claim CME credits from ABIM as it is against ACCME and AMA guidelines to claim credit twice for the same activity.

ABP Learning Sessions (More Information)
Lifelong Learning Self-Assessment (Part 2) learning sessions will be offered to pediatricians to assess and enhance knowledge in areas important to their practice.  Participants should be aware of the following guidelines:
  • No on-site registration is allowed.  Room monitors will only allow those who have pre-registered to enter, so please arrive early.
  • Participants must be an ABP diplomate and enrolled at the time of the session in the ABP MOC process to receive MOC credit. For information about enrolling in the ABP MOC process, please visit: www.abp.org and log into My ABP Portfolio. View help on how to login.  
  • Have your username and password accessible when going to the session for logging in. There will not be anyone from ABP available in the session to help retrieve this if it is not available.
  • You MUST bring a laptop to the session. Wi-Fi will be provided.
  • All attendees should program and test the laptop prior to the MOC session to ensure 1) the laptop will receive the convention center’s wireless signal and 2) the attendee’s ABP portfolio can be accessed. During the program, each attendee will submit ABP MOC module answers electronically through the portfolio on the ABP website. No paper copies of the module will be provided.
  • Attendees will not be able to leave the room with notes, answers, recordings, or other relevant session discussion materials.
