Program Description:
This exciting four-day series of seminars and how-to sessions, occurring within Scientific Sessions 2012, will bring together leading experts on valvular heart disease from around the world in the areas of epidemiology, prevention science, medical care, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, public health, and governmental policy. Participants and attendees will hear state-of-the-art information on diagnosis, evaluation, interventional, and surgical management of valvular heart disease.
Rheumatic fever, infective endocarditis, and maternal valvular heart disease during pregnancy are increasingly important global topics that have recently been addressed by guideline documents. Current recommendations will be extensively discussed. Several sessions will review the emerging technology of transcatheter aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis as an optional strategy to surgical replacement. This has stimulated the performance of randomized clinical trials and a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to selecting proper therapy, achieving optimal outcomes, and participating in international registries. Case studies will be presented to illustrate the best diagnostic and treatment options for these patients.
