Peripheral Vascular Disease Fellows in Training Workshop

Peripheral Vascular Disease Fellows in Training Workshop
Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This workshop is designed to enable vascular and cardiovascular post-graduate trainees and junior faculty to more effectively identify and treat peripheral vascular disorders and, by so doing, reduce death and disability from atherosclerosis and venous thrombosis. The workshop brings together trainees from diverse disciplines, including cardiovascular and vascular medicine, vascular surgery, and interventional cardiology and interventional radiology to facilitate discussion of the common evidence base practices. It also fosters the commitment of participants to the lifelong creation of cooperative and mutually supportive clinical environments, thus promoting the use of cost-effective, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic management strategies for patients with peripheral vascular disorders.

Learning Objectives:
After participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Apply evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients with peripheral arterial disease (claudication and critical limb ischemia).
  • Describe the etiology, natural history, diagnostic, and treatment pathways for renal artery stenosis, aortic diseases (acute aortic dissection and abdominal aortic aneurysms), and arteritis
  • Discuss the indications, benefits, and risks of medical, endovascular and surgical therapies for carotid artery disease
  • Discuss current understanding of CLI and limitations of current therapies.

Who should attend:
The workshop is designed for trainees (junior faculty, fellows, residents, students) from multiple disciplines relevant to vascular medicine (including cardiovascular and vascular medicine), cardiovascular radiology, vascular surgery, and interventional radiology.  Lectures will be delivered by international experts in vascular diseases.

Advanced registration is not required; however, attendance is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
