  • In 2008, the prevalence of end-stage renal disease was almost 548,000 with over 112,000 new cases being reported.
  • The USRDS estimates that by 2020, more than 700,000 Americans will have end-stage renal disease.
  • Nearly 26 million people (13%) in the United States have chronic kidney disease, and most are undiagnosed. Another 20 million are at increased risk for chronic kidney disease.
  • The subsequent stroke risk of preeclampsia may be mediated by a 3.6- to 6.1-fold higher later risk of hypertension and a 3.1- to 3.7-fold higher later risk of diabetes, depending on whether the preeclampsia was mild or severe.
