CVD effects over 35% of U.S. adults and accounts for over 32% of annual mortality in the United States.
Lifetime risk for developing CVD at age forty is 2 in 3 for men and 1 in 2 for women. Average age at first MI is 64.5 years for men and 70.3 years for women.
On average, more than 2,150 Americans die of CVD each day, an average of 1 death every 40 seconds. CVD currently claims more lives each year than cancer and chronic lower respiratory disease combined.
Approximately every 44 seconds, an American will have a myocardial infarction. Every 40 seconds someone has a stroke.
