- One in three U.S. adults has high blood pressure.
- Among hypertensive adults, 80 percent are aware of their condition, 71 percent are under current treatment, and only 48 percent of those treated have their hypertension controlled.
- In 1998-2008, the death rate caused by high blood pressure increased 20.2 percent, and the actual number of deaths rose 49.7 percent.
