Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine Grant Opportunities

The American Heart Association's Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine (The Institute) aims to advance the science and practice of personalized medicine to improve cardiovascular health of individuals and populations. The Institute is working to create products and services that integrate research with more precise approaches to reverse and prevent cardiovascular disease and stroke. To further advance our mission and Institute's goals, we offer grant opportunities to scientists of all fields.

Our first foray into the precision medicine arena was built around the Cardiovascular Genome-Phenome Study (CVGPS). Through this program, the American Heart Association (AHA) spearheaded a collaborative effort to accelerate the future of cardiovascular medicine. Through three award mechanisms the CVGPS program combines the power of long-term population studies with the precision of molecular analysis to unravel key distinctions between and within subgroups of patients. The discoveries it generates will point the way toward better-targeted, safer, and more effective treatments, based on a deeper understanding of patients’ characteristics, including factors such as risk profiles and therapeutic needs.

With new partnerships bringing additional top-level expertise, we are building on the science of precision medicine through collaborative relationships under the Institute. We continue to offer a variety of grant opportunities for scientists and researchers from many different fields of study to accomplish our goals to reverse and prevent cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Uncovering New Patterns Grants

  • One-year grants to uncover new patterns and make new discoveries within and across existing datasets using cloud computing. Specifically, these grants will target the areas of data harmonization, testing new methods, identifying new biomarkers, and testing new hypothesis for as-of-yet unsolved problems in existing datasets.
  • $150,000 award amount.
  • Deadline for applications: Thursday, June 1st, 2017

Uncovering New Patterns Fellowships

  • Two-year fellowships to train a generation of postdoctoral fellows in the scientific area of cardiovascular diseases and stroke and cloud computing. Specifically, these grants will target the areas of data harmonization, testing new methods, identifying new biomarkers, and testing new hypothesis for as-of-yet unsolved problems in existing datasets.
  • $150,000 award amount.
  • Deadline for applications: Thursday, June 1st, 2017

Methods Validation

  • Two-year grants to focus on identifying methods to improve the integration and analysis of data within and across large and diverse datasets using cloud computing.
  • $200,000 cash amount with up to $300,000 in Service Credit allocations.
  • $10,000 Best in class prize, for investigator / team that makes the most significant and impactful progress and accomplishments each year.
  • Deadline for applications: Thursday, June 29th, 2017

Institutional Data Fellowship

  • Two-year institutional grants to focus on educating and training the next generation of researchers in cloud computing. Two different Institutional Data Fellowship Programs will be offered: the Cohort Fellowship Program and the Clinical Computational Fellowship Program.
  • $150,000 cash amount with up to $150,000 in Service Credit allocations.
  • These programs are designed for a program director of an institution to identify, hire and train fellows in the topics around harmonizing and analyzing large datasets and enabling a rigorous cross-training computational biology environment in the awarded institution.
  • Deadline for applications: Thursday, June 29th, 2017
