Focused Research Programs

The American Heart/Stroke Association funds investigator-initiated career development and knowledge discovery projects through its research programs. We're also committed to identifying and supporting specific science areas deemed critical to achieving our mission and strategic objectives.  The association has also established partnerships with various organizations to fund focused research programs.  The American Heart Association has also provided research administration services to the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, and the Cardiovascular Medical Research & Education Fund (CMREF).


 The following foundations will provide funding for programs offered for Summer 2012 deadlines:
 
Myocarditis Foundation
AHA/Myocarditis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award

Supports an investigator proposing innovative basic, clinical or translational research projects relevant to the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment epidemiology and/or prevention of myocarditis. 

Interested parties should submit a postdoctoral fellowship application.  More details coming in mid-March.

Pediatric

AHA/CCF Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Joint Research Award

The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) has partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to establish a research award for investigators conducting research specific to pediatric cardiomyopathy. 
CCF will provide $35,000 per year for two years to fund one project related to pediatric cardiomyopathy research.  The AHA will provide the balance of the funds needed to fully fund the selected award.

Interested parties should submit a Beginning Grant-in-Aid or Grant-in-Aid.   More details coming in mid-March.

Provides support during the early stages of careers for those who engage in resuscitation research.

Supports an individual interested in embarking on an academic career in vascular neurology or stroke.

Transition Award
To support a career development award for an individual interested in embarking on an academic career into emergency medicine research.

FARA

 
Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance
AHA/FARA Ataxia Cardiology Research Award
Award for research related to Friedreich's Ataxia and cardiology; supports basic, clinical, population or translational research relevant to the causes or treatment of cardiology diseases in Friedreich's Ataxia patients.

PHA AHA/PHA Postdoctoral Fellowship Award
Provides support for a trainee to embark upon a career dedicated to the study of pulmonary hypertension through basic or clinical research.

ASP

 ASP/AHA Career Development Award
The Association of Specialty Professors is partnering with the American Heart Association to designate a Beginning Grant-in-Aid or Scientist Development Grant that supports physician investigators interested in embarking on academic careers in cardiovascular aging research and/or cardiovascular disease in older adults.
