  • Effective community CVD prevention interventions have been underutilized due to a lack of a coordinated national effort.
  • Million Hearts Initiative is a new Health and Human Services (HHS) effort that aims to prevent a million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years and demonstrate to the American people that improving the health system can save lives.
  • Each year there are approximately 2 million heart attacks and strokes in the United States. The campaign is expected to produce a 10 percent reduction in the rate of acute cardiovascular events each year for 5 years resulting in one million heart attack and strokes prevented.
