NPAM Committee Discriptions

Nutrition Committee

Focuses on promoting healthy eating to reduce cardiovascular risk in the general population and in patients with existing cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. Initiatives include preparing scientific advisories, guidelines and recommendations; preparing educational materials; and designing clinical and public health implementation strategies.

 
Physical Activity Committee

Promotes research on the effects of physical activity on the cardiovascular system and develops guidelines and implementation strategies for the clinician for physical activity in persons with and without cardiovascular disease.

 
Obesity Committee

Focuses on expanding research in obesity and its effects on cardiovascular disease. Develops advisories and conferences and implementation strategies for the clinician in this area.


Behavior Change Committee

The Behavior Change Committee shall focus on the behavioral aspects of primary prevention through lifestyle change.
As a means of supporting AHA efforts to achieve the 2020 Impact Goals, the AHA must understand behavior change, motivation and appropriate interventions that can facilitate and support lifestyle changes that can be sustained.
 

Diabetes Committee

Covers the impact of diabetes on all facets of cardiovascular disease. The current focus is on the role of PPARs in diabetic vascular disease and defining strategies for preventing cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients.

 
Membership/Communications Committee

Works to expand our membership and promotes the inclusion of early career members and members outside the United States.
