Welcome to the KCVD Council website. The council strives to reduce cardiovascular-related disability and death through research, communication, advocacy, education and training about how the kidney influences blood pressure, vascular and cardiac function.

The Council for the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease (KCVD) is a dynamic group of basic and clinical investigators and clinicians who are dedicated to unraveling the kidney’s role in hypertension, heart disease, and stroke.

The last 10 years have witnessed an explosion of research documenting the influence of the kidney and its dysfunction in vascular and heart diseases. This emphasized the undeniable existence of a ‘cardiorenal syndrome’, and the role of chronic kidney disease as a cardiovascular risk factor.  At the same time, advances in molecular physiology, genetics, and imaging have reemphasized the kidney’s contribution to the long term control of blood pressure and the development of hypertension.

The KCVD Council works actively to support research into the causes of kidney-related cardiovascular disease, and to develop translational approaches to enhance patient care and disease prevention. This council is committed to developing the next generation of renal scientists. We strive to maintain an adequate academic, age, gender and ethnicity balance in our steering committee so every member is represented. We would welcome your membership in the council!

Best Wishes,

Pablo A. Ortiz Ph.D.
