Value Of Council Science Subcommittees To AHA

Updated:May 13,2014

Science subcommittees provide sound science, advice, and guidance in countless disciplines related to the mission of the American Heart Association.  AHA recognizes the value of volunteers in support of the association’s mission to “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.”

The following are “Value Added” activities of our Science Subcommittees:

  • Science subcommittees lend expertise to the organization by:

  • writing scientific statements and science advisories and
  • assisting in the peer review of manuscripts
  • These subcommittees participate in professional education activities including:

  • AHA Scientific Sessions
  • AHA sponsored scientific conferences and
  • various other programs related to the organization
  • Subcommittees are responsible for:

  • developing professional and patient education materials based on critical subjects that need to be addressed by the AHA
  • Committee members also:

  • identify research needs and
  • review grants for the organization
  • Subcommittees collaborate with:

  • other AHA committees
  • various professional and government organizations and
  • industries to build key relationships for the association

For these reasons, science subcommittees are a vital part of the mission of the American Heart Association.
