Since 1949 the American Heart Association has spent more than $3.1 billion on research to increase knowledge about cardiovascular disease and stroke. The association has carved an important niche in supporting the development of beginning investigators, including undergraduates and graduate students, and offers innovative funding mechanisms to stimulate research in promising areas of cardiovascular science as well as increase interest in research careers.
The American Heart Association's current funding and scholarship opportunities are listed below by career level. Some opportunities are sponsored through a specific AHA affiliate and some are sponsored through the AHA's National Center. Affiliate-sponsored programs may require that the student's research be conducted in a state within the sponsoring affiliate, or that the student is a resident of a state within the sponsoring affiliate, or a combination of both. Please visit the individual programs' Web sites for complete eligibility criteria.
