This grant acknowledges outstanding trainees who exemplify a balance between clinical expertise and scientific interests.  While applicants may be actively engaged in research and have associated publications, this is not a requirement for application and selection.  The applicant’s professional development, goals and career achievements will also be considered.

Electronic submission through the Council Awards Application System is required.  Hard copies of any part of the application cannot be accepted.  This award will be open for application in the system on April 17, 2013.

The application file should contain the following documents in PDF format:

• Applicant’s personal statement: Please submit a one-page double- or single-spaced personal statement outlining the following:
  • How receipt of the Women in Cardiology Travel Grant will further your professional development and goals
  • Your research and clinical interests
  • Publications and presentations at meetings
  • Additional information pertaining to your choice of cardiology as a career
• Letter of reference from applicant’s training program director (ACGME- or AOA- approved program in cardiology) that certifies that the applicant is currently enrolled in the program and provides supportive statements on behalf of the applicant as to why she is worthy of an award.

A username and password prevously set up through online profile registration at  My.AmericanHeart for Professionals will be necessary to access the Application System.  If you have not created an online profile yet, please visit My.AmericanHeart for Professionals to create an online member profile before accessing the Council Awards Application System.  AHA Professional Members who are creating an online profile for the first time should make sure to register using their AHA membership identification numbers.

AHA Professional Membership is required of all applicants for this award.  If you are joining the AHA to apply, please wait on your AHA membership number to arrive from AHA Member Services via e-mail before creating an online profile and starting your application file.  We suggest that new members join the AHA no later than May 30 for the membership number to be processed and delivered in time for the application deadline.

• Up to 25 grant winners will receive $1,200 to be used at their discretion towards expenses associated with attending Scientific Sessions 2013, such as meeting registration, airfare, hotel and meals.
• Winners will be acknowledged with an engraved plaque at a special reception and dinner at Scientific Sessions. 
• Winners will be provided with specific training seminars, mentoring and networking opportunities at the AHA Scientific Sessions.
• Winners will be provided with one ticket each to the Women in Cardiology Networking Luncheon on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Scientific Sessions.
