CVSN Cardiovascular and Stroke Minority Travel Grant

Yound Female NurseThe American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing proudly supports the research efforts of early career investigators and trainees of all backgrounds.  The CVSN Council is offering travel grants to outstanding minority early career investigators and students interested in attending AHA Scientific Sessions.

Award Information (click on the sections below for more information)

The travel grant is for up to $660 to cover transportation and hotel costs related to the Scientific Sessions.  Grants will be issued after the conference upon submission of travel receipts to the AHA.  Up to 5 awards will be issued based on all of the eligibility criteria below:
 

 
  •  The candidate must be a minority by the standard NIH definition: He or she belongs to a minority group underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral science careers, based on their minority group's representation in the total population. This includes American Indians (including Alaskan Natives, Eskimos and Aleutians), Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders, African Americans and Hispanics.  Other candidates considered a minority are those from medically underserved populations with low socio-economic status and those living in rural areas to include whites.
  • Hispanic countries include the following: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela
  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a noncitizen national (born in American Samoa or Swains Island), or a U.S. permanent resident.
  • The candidate must be a nurse and hold an academic (or equivalent) rank below associate professor (e.g., assistant professors, instructors, postdocs, fellows and students).  If the candidate is a faculty member, he or she must be within the first five years of the faculty appointment.
  • The applicant must be conducting cardiovascular or stroke research.
  • Previous winners of this award are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should apply for only one of the travel grants that the council offers to Scientific Sessions.

 



Deadline
All applications must be received through the Council Awards Application System by August 11, at 5 p.m. Central Time.  Applicants should apply as early as possible before the deadline to allow time to address submission issues. Applicants needing to join the AHA should do so by August 6 for the membership to be processed in time to receive the membership number required for the application form.
