The Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences proudly supports and encourages the research efforts of early career investigators and trainees in the United States and abroad.  The BCVS Council is offering a travel grant to international students and early career members to attend Scientific Sessions 2014 in November.

Award Information (click on each section below for more information)

  • Applicants must first submit an abstract for presentation at the AHA Scientific Sessions in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting abstracts to the AHA Scientific Sessions.  The abstract must be submitted to one of the categories primarily sponsored by the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences.  Please view a list of abstract categories specifically associated with this travel award. 
  • Visit Scientific Sessions to submit an abstract before the abstract submission deadline.  Your abstract control number will need to be noted for the travel grant application.
  • Applicant must be a member of the BCVS Council by the time of application.  If you need to become an AHA/ASA Professional Member, you should do so no later than Aug. 16 for your membership to be processed in time to receive a membership number before the application submission deadline. 
  • The candidate must hold an academic rank of no higher than that of instructor (or equivalent) at the time of submission of the abstract; or, at the time of abstract submission, the candidate must not have held a faculty appointment for longer than two years.
  • The candidate must not be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • The candidate must be working outside the United States.
  • The applicant must be able to present an abstract that has been accepted to the AHA Scientific Sessions in either a poster session or oral abstract session.  If the applicant is unable to present the abstract, he/she will be disqualified from the award.  
  • Winners are not eligible to re-enter the competition in subsequent years. 



Deadline
All applications must be received through the Council Awards Application System by 5 p.m. Central Standard Time on Aug. 11, 2014.   Applicants needing to join the AHA should do so by Aug. 6 for the membership to be processed in time to receive the membership number required for the application form.
