Mission Statement
The American Heart Association's strategic goal to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 20 percent by the year 2020 has led to an emphasis on the importance of resuscitation and the chain of survival in AHA activities and use of resources.  The council's bench-to-bedside and community approach ranges from integrated cardiopulmonary physiology to issues of critical care, emergency cardiovascular care and CPR.  Pulmonary hypertension and regulation of the pulmonary circulation have historically been areas of investigation for many of our council members. The council is keenly interested in promoting approaches that include clinical care, clinical research and basic science.

Council activities focus on developing research interests and careers of young investigators, writing scientific statements for the AHA, supporting scientific meetings and providing representation on various American Heart Association committees.
